The VMP74 & VMP73 include an infra-red remote control as standard. They have no moving parts, and generate no heat or noise when in use, making them simple to slot into existing home cinema set-ups without worrying about ventilation and cooling. Their discreet design enables them to be hidden but provide high quality content, whilst drawing minimal power.
Most importantly they can upscale and play almost every common media file format, including VOB, DIVX, MPG, WMA, WMV, FLAC, AVI and MKV files. Content is delivered either online, via the home network or locally attached storage.
Thanks to a built-in internet browser, users of the VMP74 will be able to watch content such as YouTube on their large screen TV. They will also be able to use the VMP74 to surf the web on their TV and access social networking sites such as Facebook and Flickr.
“These products can play virtually anything and do it very, very well.” explains James Coulson, European marketing manager, ViewSonic. “We are very proud of the reviews the units are receiving and due to our continued commitment to improving the firmware we are confident the product will only get better. We have an excellent content roadmap and will have some exciting announcements shortly.”
The VMP74 incorporates a Sigma Designs SMP8655AD chipset to deliver audio and visual content, meaning that HD-quality video can be played smoothly. eSATA and USB connections allow external storage to be added to the VMP74, and the built-in optical SPDIF connection allows the unit to be used with digital audio systems.
In addition to the VMP74, ViewSonic has announced the launch of the VMP73, a direct replacement for the highly successful VMP72. The VMP73 improves on the previous incarnation with a smaller form factor and an updated chipset to enhance performance. As with the VMP74, it includes a remote control and no moving parts with no heat or noise generation.
